Walk with my daughter

Have not been here in a while. Rayelene had major surgery, and it was successful. Infection in the incision and things started to turn. It seems as if the hospital in Delta, had no clue, and when she went to St. Mary's they told her it was bruising from the surgery, and it would heal. Two days later when she was in the bathroom, the infection exploded and shot across the room. Bill took her back to the hospital and I met them there. It was awful. The ER doc opened the incision so that it could drain. Now there is a lower back and hip issue. Told it was the sciatic nerve, the pain just kept getting worse, no sleep, hurt to walk, sit, stand, she was in pain all the time. Then she developed a fever and chills.
She came to stay with me so that her husband Bill could get some sleep. She was up and down and down and up. On Thursday morning, her temperature spiked to 104 and I took her to the Delta County Memorial Hospital, they admitted her, saying she had an infection, and needed high doses of antibiotics given intravenously. I did not go to see her Thursday evening but went up Friday morning. She was passing a lot of dead tissue from the radiation and needed some more pads. She said that her blood pressure was low, and they thought there might be a cyst made up of dead tissue from the radiation, and it had attached itself to the abdominal wall, as well as having a bladder infection and possibly other infections as well. But the antibiotics should take care of it. She went to the bathroom and told the nurse that she had passed some dark red blood, the nurse said that she would note it, but felt that it was due to the abscess and infection.
I did not see her but spoke with her thought out the day. She told me late in the evening that they were running a test on her blood to see if the infection had gotten into the bloodstream, the test would take 24 hours, but was feeling a bit better. I spoke with her on Saturday, went with Gary and Gabi to see her on Saturday evening, she played with Gabi and seemed to be feeling much better. They were no longer giving her antibiotics, only fluids as she had been dehydrated. I had to take Gabi home, she gave her 'baby kisses' and we left. I got a text from her at about 7:30 and she said that the blood test came back negative and she was really happy, now to get the blood pressure up, and the temp down.
I never finished this entry, To be honest, I forgot about the blogs I had started. Sheyanne asked me about bogs and if I had ever used one, I remembered that I had and started a search for them. I found this one about Rayleene and decided it deserved to be completed. Her is the rest of her story
I went to take a shower. Gary yelled at me and said that Rayleene was in trouble and we had to get to the hospital. We rushed to the hospital and were met by her husband Bill and a family friend. They said that Rayleene had gotten up to go to the bathroom and started to bleed. They were airlifting her to St. Mary's in Grand Junction for emergency surgery and we needed to go immediately to Grand Junction.
We arrived at the hospital before the Flight for Life and waited impatiently for its arrival. It seemed like an eternity. After the flight arrived things were a blur, I do not recall all the details. It was if I was viewing all the activity through a cloudy window. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Her father and I were called into an office to speak with a physician and the hospital clergy, they told us that things were not good, there was very little chance that they could save her. I remember getting up and walking out of the room, where I went from there I do not remember. I finally found a small alcove with a bench in it and sat down. I had no idea where I was, how to get out of the hospital or get back to the room I had left. I sat on the bench for a time, finally, Gary and the pastor found me, and we went outside. Bill and the family friend arrived and Gary told him what he knew. They went inside the hospital. From here it is all a blur, they told us Rayleene was gone. I called her sister, Tabitha, and brother Jarrod. I think made the call to Travis, Sheyanne's boyfriend at the time, and told him. Jarrod and Tabi both came to the hospital.
We lost our oldest daughter, without a warning, without a whisper, she was gone. I had lost my mother just a 14 months earlier, now my daughter. The pain saturated my brain and body. Never in a lifetime would we have imagined this would happen. I could not breathe. I was numb. It was like a bad nightmare and when I wake up things will be fine. I didn't wake up, the nightmare was a reality.
Gary went with Bill and Tabi to set up the service which will be held at the Confluence Park Gazebo where she got married less than a year ago.

A new year begins
As we enter a new year, we are thankful that our daughter is in the final stages of beating her cancer. She completed her initial 5 week treatment, had a CT scan and the tumor is shrinking nicely, still needs to shrink more before they can do the internal radiation. She will go for a CT scan the first of next week to determine when the internal treatment can be completed. Not sick, still has her hair and an amazing positive attitude about the whole process. We need to bottle her positive attitude and sell it. I know that research conducted by some states that attitude does not play a part in ones recovery from illness, I say balderdash, it has a lot to do with recovery, as does ones faith. We have walked through the tunnel and the light is shinning at the far end.

Next to the last week of treatment - phase 1
Today is the next to the last week of chemo and radiation in phase one of treatment. The doc told Rayleene today, that this chemo treatment was the strong stuff, and the next treatment will not be as strong. She will have to have a chemo treatment every three weeks for 9 weeks following the internal radiation treatment that takes three days in the hospital. that happens the 2 week in January. Long, unexpected road, but life is what it is, and you make the best of all the blessings that we have.

Took Rayleene with me shopping yeterday, she was really tired so we went to a couple of stores. Took her to Sephora in JC Pennys and got her new make[up, it really looks good. She does not want to look sick or tired, so we changed things up a bit for her. She had bad heartburn on Thursday night, it kept her up a lot, so went back to my house so she could sleep a bit. She said that the radiation has screwed with her taste and smell, things that smelled good to her before, not does not smell so good, and she needs to have a lot of seasoning on food for it to not taste like cardboard, some small things that should get better after treatment.

GREAT NEWS
Rayleene had a CT scan on Wednesday, the tumor has markedly shrunk. She is scheduled for her first internal radiation treatment for the second week in January. She will be in the hospital for 3 days and must reaming in bed, due to the radioactive beads. She can have visitors during this time but only for 30 min at a time. She can watch TV or work on a computer, a boring 3 days for her. The good news is the tumor is shrinking, and she has not been sick one day. She gets really tired, has heartburn, but all things considered that is not all that bad. She has two more treatments of chemo in this round.

Short treatment, but very tired
I have noticed that the third day after Chemo, Rayleene is extremely tired, and sleeps a lot, which is good. Sleep is healing. She only had radiation today, no infusion of fluids, so was back from Grand Junction early, she will only have radiation tomorrow as well. She came to my house after treatment, and played with Gabi, and slept. She has a rash on her lower abdomen, doctor said it was a yeast infection caused by the radiation. It is not causing her a problem at the moment, but the doctor gave her some medicated cream to use.
She was told today, that the chemo treatment would not be as legenthy this monday, that instead of having to wait four hours after chemo for radiation, the time begins when the chemo treatment begins, so she will only have to wait a couple of hours at most between treatments. No sickness, which is fantastic.

Great day
Today was a great day for my daughter, she got home from radiation, took a nap, and went for a ride on her horse. Something that she has not done in quite a while. She said it was an amazing feeling, riding again. She has had a problem with her sciatic nerve, seems that the tumor might have been causing the nerve pain, none today. Bleeding has stopped, the smell is gone, she is doing amazing. One strong young woman, my daughter.
